The picture below shows the East and West street. This drawing is of the F. A. Luce Store which was located on the northwest corner of downtown or directly north of the Swiss Inn. The dated reference in the drawing appears to be 1909.
The Luce Family was among the early settlers. The F refers to Frank Luce. Many will also recall Jim Luce who had a boat and tackle shop just south of the Swiss Inn. Drawing by Barb Blackmer.
The Depot in the picture below was on the south side of the tracks. The depot prior to this one was actually behind the store on the south side of the tracts.
North of the Tracks is another store which use to also be the Post Office. This was operated by the Seats Family for many years.
The D-X Gas Station and the R.B. Howard Grocery were later combined into one with a common front.
An earlier view of this scene would not have included the store far right nor the railroad depot. The R.B Howard Grocery began in the early 1930's in the part shown as the D X Gas.
In the fore--ground was an updated Swiss Inn on the soutwest corner of the main four! The building behind and left was Jim Luce's Tackle Shop.
The Seats Store Post Office at left. Date on picture 1941. To the left of the Depot is the earlier depot which was turned into a home. It was later moved south. Gentlemen in picture is John Seats
Now as the story goes, this building was to be the Pool Hall. Apparently, as the story goes, the ladies of this community decided otherwise. You are correct, no pool hall. This building became a home for a number of years and is now the Home of the EMS (?) Unit. East of the railroad crossing on the north side of the tracks.
The Homestead.
